Major delays in supply chains due to poor weather conditions in South Africa

Severe storms off the coast of South Africa have had a significant impact on ship traffic, causing delays in supply chains. Danish company Scan Global Logistics has issued warnings to its customers regarding potential delays, as ships in the Cape of Good Hope area are seeking shelter from strong winds and high waves. The adverse weather conditions, attributed to a cyclone, have been confirmed by the meteorological group LSEG. The cyclone is expected to linger in the area for at least another week, affecting over 600 container ships currently operating in Africa.

Since the end of November, ship passages in the Red Sea have increased the duration of the voyage between Europe and Asia by 10 days or more, leading to significant delays. Several ports in Asia and Europe are experiencing congestion due to increased traffic volumes.

An assassination attempt on Trump

On Former President Donald Trump, a potential Republican candidate for the upcoming November election, was an assassination attempt on July 13 while delivering a speech at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, located approximately 40 kilometers from Pittsburgh.

During his speech, shots were fired, prompting Trump to take cover behind the podium as security personnel swiftly moved in to protect him. Despite sustaining minor injuries, Trump was escorted off the stage and later confirmed to be in stable condition. The assailant was identified by the FBI as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park. Crooks fired from a building approximately 140 meters away from the stage using an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle before being neutralized by law enforcement.

The next day, Trump thanked everyone on social networks for their support and called on everyone to unite. Trump also announced that he does not intend to change his plans and will go to the Republican Party convention in Milwaukee, where he will be officially nominated as a presidential candidate. President Joe Biden swiftly condemned the assassination attempt, vowing a thorough investigation into the matter. All leaders, and also including Elon Musk, have expressed their support in the wake of the incident.

Hong Kong testing its own ChatGPT-style tool

The Hong Kong government is currently undergoing testing of its own derivative of the ChatGPT tool, with plans to release it to the public in the near future. This innovative program was developed by the Generative Artificial Intelligence Research and Development Center, spearheaded by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in collaboration with various other prestigious universities. Initially designed as a tool to aid government officials with documentation tasks, the ChatGPT tool is expected to evolve with additional features like graphic and video design capabilities.

According to Francis Fong, Honorary President of the Hong Kong Information Technology Federation, the potential of the local version of the ChatGPT tool compared to the original remains uncertain. China, including Hong Kong and neighboring Macau, is not on the list of "supported countries and territories" by OpenAI, one of the most prominent artificial intelligence companies.
