Crews responded to a Northwest Portland neighborhood after an explosion that caught two homes on fire Thursday morning.Just after 10 a.m., Portland Fire Rescue crews responded to a report of an explosion in the 10400 block of Northwest Burkhardt Court. Crews arrived and found a home engulfed in flames and spreading to neighboring homes.
The situation was quickly deemed dire enough to warrant a second alarm, with additional resources called in to help the firefighters contain the blaze. Despite their best efforts, it took nearly an hour for the flames to be brought under control, with PF&R confirming that the fire was out at approximately 11 a.m. Nonetheless, crews remained on the scene for a while longer to ensure there were no hotspots left that could reignite the fire.
Thankfully, no injuries have been reported in connection with the incident. However, the damage to the two homes was severe, with one completely destroyed and only a few exterior walls remaining. The cause of the explosion that led to the fire is currently under investigation, and authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Residents of the Northwest Portland neighborhood affected by the explosion and fire are understandably shaken by the incident, and the local community has rallied around them, offering support and assistance in any way they can. While the road to recovery will be long, there is hope that the community can come together to help those impacted by this tragic event.
