Tragedy struck close to Albany, Oregon, on May 18, 2023, when a serious crash involving two tractor trailers and a van killed 7 people. The incident occurred around 2:05 p.m. on the northbound lanes of Interstate 5, near the Santiam Recreation Area. The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation, but witness Adrian Gonales reported that "it looks like the van was pinned" between 2 trucks.
