On a somber note, two lives were lost in an accident in Portland when a black Mercedes 500 crashed through a guardrail and fell off the Morrison Bridge early on Sunday morning. As per reports provided by the Portland Police Bureau, the car was traveling in an eastbound direction when it hit the guardrail and tumbled off the bridge, landing on Water Avenue. The victims are yet to be identified. This incident has left the community deeply saddened and concerned about other potential accidents.

Following the crash, authorities swiftly intervened, closing off the Morrison Bridge eastbound and Water Avenue. The closure lasted until around 8 a.m., and investigations are still ongoing. According to officers, speed and alcohol may have been contributing factors, causing the car to lose control and crash through the guardrail. The police have urged any witnesses to come forward and provide information that may assist in the investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to email crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov and include the reference case number 23-146476.

This accident has increased the number of traffic-related deaths in Portland to 26. Local residents nearby the area reportedly expressed their gratitude that the car landed a few feet away from where they were residing. However, they are also concerned about the lack of safety measures in this particular area, calling for immediate action to be taken to prevent future incidents. Some residents revealed their dissatisfaction with the situation and expressed the need for better safety measures, pointing out that this wasn't the first instance of a similar incident happening in this vicinity.

One of the neighbors, who preferred to remain anonymous, said, "Not again. This isn't safe. They need to do something about the guardrail right here. This is like the third time a vehicle has fallen off one of these two bridges." This tragic event has left the area in mourning and has once again reminded us of the importance of adhering to road safety regulations. It is imperative that local authorities come up with smarter and more effective ways to enhance safety for all drivers and pedestrians alike. Until then, we must continue to promote and prioritize responsible driving practices that protect all of us while on the road.
