Tragedy struck in southeast Portland on Saturday night, as a two-vehicle crash resulted in the death of one person and left another injured from a gunshot wound. The Portland Police Bureau swiftly responded to the incident, which occurred at the intersection of Southeast 102nd Avenue and Southeast Washington Street at approximately 10:20 p.m.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers were met with a harrowing sight. One of the vehicles involved in the crash had rolled over, while the driver of the other vehicle had sustained a gunshot wound. Additionally, a passenger in one of the vehicles suffered life-threatening injuries. In a desperate bid to save lives, officers immediately performed CPR before both injured individuals were rushed to the hospital for further medical attention.

Tragically, despite the efforts made by emergency responders, the passenger succumbed to their injuries and passed away at the hospital. The individual who was shot is currently receiving ongoing treatment.

Authorities have determined that the shooting did not take place at the same location as the crash, leading them to believe that these two incidents are unrelated. As investigations into both cases continue, no arrests have been made thus far. The Portland Police Bureau is urging anyone with information regarding the incidents to come forward and assist in their inquiries.

This devastating event marks the 34th crash-related fatality in Portland this year, adding to the alarming statistic of six deaths occurring within a mere 16-day period. The community is left grappling with grief and seeking answers as they reflect on the fragility of life and the importance of road safety.
