On June 17, 2023, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) released footage of a police chase that ended with a shocking discovery. The suspect was reportedly driving a stolen semi-truck, which led police on a high-speed chase down IH-35 in Lasalle County, Texas. The pursuit continued into a residential area where the truck struck stop signs and an electric pole.

When the driver abandoned the truck and fled on foot, police were able to locate and rescue 18 people who were in the cab of the truck. It was later determined that these people were illegal immigrants who were probably being smuggled across the border.

Dashcam and TV footage during the chase showed the dangerous and reckless behavior of the suspect, who endangered both police officers and the public. The truck was seen speeding, swerving across the road and knocking objects in its path.

Despite the discovery of 18 people, the driver of the stolen truck has yet to be found by police. This incident underscores the urgency of the problem of human smuggling and the dangers people are exposed to when trying to cross the border.

The Texas Police Department has launched an investigation into the incident and is encouraging anyone with information about the suspect to come forward. The release of the video is also a reminder of the importance of dash and body cameras in law enforcement, as they provide crucial evidence in investigations and help hold people accountable for their actions.

This incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of human trafficking and the need for stronger measures to combat this illegal activity. It also underscores the importance of law enforcement efforts to protect the public and ensure the safety of all individuals involved in these dangerous situations.
