On August 22nd, a tractor trailer carrying pigs encountered a mechanical issue in Geary County, Kansas. The unfortunate incident occurred on the busy Interstate 70 during a heat wave, making the situation even more challenging for the stranded animals. As reported by KWCH 12 News, the intense heat and lack of ventilation inside the trailer caused the pigs to overheat while they waited for assistance. Thankfully, fire crews arrived promptly on the scene and used a small hose to spray the pigs with water, providing some much-needed relief from the scorching temperatures.

The sweltering heat wave was a significant factor in the incident, with the thermometer reaching a staggering 105 degrees Fahrenheit. The heat index was even higher, peaking at 112 degrees. The extreme weather conditions proved to be too much for both the vehicle and its cargo, leading to a stressful and potentially dangerous situation for the pigs.
Despite the challenges presented by the heatwave, the emergency services acted quickly and efficiently to ensure the welfare of the animals. By using their expertise and resources, they were able to provide temporary relief to the overheated pigs until they could be safely transported to their destination. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of proper animal transportation practices, particularly during extreme weather conditions.
