A Kentucky emergency medical technician (EMT) is in critical condition after a serious collision with a semi-truck. The accident occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. Monday, June 19, at the intersection of East Chestnut Street and Brook Street in Louisville.

According to WHAS 11 News, the ambulance was transporting a patient eastbound on East Chestnut Street when it ran a red light and collided with a semi-truck exiting I-65 on Brook Street. The impact from the collision was so severe that it ejected a paramedic who was treating a patient in the back of the ambulance. Both paramedics were rushed to the hospital, with one of them suffering life-threatening injuries.
The ambulance was using lights and sirens at the time of the accident, but it is unclear why it ran a red light. The Louisville Police Department's Traffic Division is investigating the accident, and no further information has been released at this time.
