The Illinois State Police (ISP) are currently investigating a serious multi-vehicle crash that occurred on Wednesday near the town of Teutopolis. The incident involved multiple semi trucks and took place on eastbound I-70 at mile marker 101.5, in an ongoing construction zone between Effingham and Montrose. Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 3:30 p.m. on July 12th, where they discovered a semi truck that had crossed through a concrete barrier into the opposite lane of travel. One person was airlifted to the hospital in serious condition. The severity of the injuries sustained by those involved in the crash is not yet known.

The interstate was closed for several hours as emergency services worked to clear the scene and investigate the cause of the crash. All lanes were finally reopened just before midnight. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, and it is not yet clear whether any charges will be filed as a result of the incident.

This latest crash highlights the need for increased safety measures on Illinois highways. The ISP is urging all drivers to exercise caution when travelling on the state's roads and to be aware of construction zones and other potential hazards. It is important for drivers to stay alert, avoid distractions, and follow all traffic laws to prevent accidents from occurring.

The ISP will continue to investigate this incident to determine the cause of the crash and establish whether any parties were at fault. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the ISP to assist with their investigation. It is important for all drivers to remain vigilant and take steps to ensure their safety and the safety of others while on the road.
