On May 27, a violent accident between a truck and a school bus hurt over a dozen students. The accident, which occurred around 3:30 p.m. local time, took place in the small town of Pleasantville, New Jersey. According to eyewitnesses, the school bus, which was carrying 32 students, was making a left turn when it was hit by a speeding truck.
The truck driver, who was hauling a load of lumber, tried to avoid the bus, but was unable to stop in time. The impact caused the bus to spin around and come to a stop in the middle of the intersection. Emergency responders arrived on the scene within minutes and began treating the injured students. Seventeen students and one adult were transported to the nearby hospital with various injuries, including broken bones and lacerations.
One resident, who captured the incident on their home security camera, shared the footage on social media. "I couldn't believe what I was seeing," said the resident, who wished to remain anonymous. "It was like something out of a movie. I just hope everyone involved is okay." The cause of the crash is still under investigation by local authorities. Preliminary reports suggest that the truck driver may have been distracted at the time of the accident.
The school district has released a statement expressing their concern for the injured students and their families and promising a thorough investigation into the incident.
