On Thursday morning, a tragic accident occurred on the inner loop of I-485 near Charlotte, North Carolina. A semi-truck was hauling a mobile home when it crashed just before Moores Chapel Road, causing the mobile home to dislodge and fall off the trailer. The mobile home landed on several nearby cars, crushing them under its weight. One other semi-truck also appears to have been involved in the accident, running off the road and onto the grassy shoulder. Though it is still unclear what caused the initial crash, the aftermath was devastating. Several cars were completely destroyed, and four people were injured. Fortunately, the injuries were not considered to be life-threatening, but the psychological impact for those involved must have been significant. The accident caused major delays, and people were advised to avoid the area if possible. Crews worked to investigate the incident and clear the wreckage, but it was a difficult and time-consuming process. Drivers trying to get through the area were advised to take exit 10 to I-85 North for 5.5 miles, then exit 34 and head north on NC-27 for 6 miles to access I-485.
