Truck carrying giant wind turbine blade strikes bridge

A tractor-trailer hauling a wind turbine blade flipped over when it crashed into a railroad bridge at speed. The incident occurred as the truck driver was en route to Columbia, where the blade was scheduled for delivery. Unfortunately, the driver failed to properly navigate past a railroad bridge, causing the towering blade to collide with the overpass, ultimately leading to the overturning of the vehicle.

Following the accident, a section of the highway has been temporarily shut down to assess and address the aftermath of the collision. Due to the immense size of the 240-foot-long blade, maneuvering the truck is proving to be a formidable task, prompting authorities to devise a plan to transfer the blade onto an alternative trailer for safe transport back to its original destination.

Amazon data shows a decline in carbon emissions

Based in Seattle company Amazon, has recently released data showcasing a significant reduction in its carbon emissions, largely attributed to a substantial increase in the procurement of renewable electricity. The company's proactive approach toward mitigating its environmental impact has been fueled by robust investments in renewable energy sources, particularly solar and wind power.

As a result of these strategic efforts, Amazon has successfully slashed emissions by an impressive 29% compared to the previous year. With ambitious goals to reach carbon neutrality by 2040, Amazon is also spearheading the "Climate Pledge" initiative, urging other industry giants to follow suit and commit to environmentally responsible practices. The company has faced much criticism over the years regarding its emissions reporting. However, due to pressure from employee and shareholder groups, the company has stepped up in recent years, disclosing more information about its impact and empowering its sustainability team to invest in technologies aimed at reducing emissions.

It’s worth noting that Amazon excludes emissions from the manufacturers from which it buys directly, as well as the independent merchants who sell most of the products on its retail site. In its public emissions reports, the company only includes the impact of Amazon-branded products, which the company says account for about 1% of sales. Amazon clarified that company does not include products from its suppliers to avoid double-counting emissions tracked and reported by those manufacturers.
