A Chicago resident fraudulently stole over $9 million worth of cargo

A 39-year-old Chicago resident, Aivaras Zigmantas, is currently facing a federal charge for attempting to impersonate a carrier representative in a sophisticated scheme that resulted in the theft of goods valued at over $9.5 million. From 2020 to September 2023, Zigmantas posed as a carrier agent to deceive companies into transferring cargo to him, which he then stole using a complex method of redirecting and transferring the goods between trucks and warehouses. The indictment states that Zygmantas created fictitious carriers such as Best Global Express, Mato Trans and Martin Global, and obtained U.S. Department of Transportation and motor carrier numbers. He also made up fraudulent brokers such as Total Freight Broker and Mat Broker.

Despite the evidence against him, Zigmantas denies any involvement in the fraud and is currently facing charges for bank fraud, and interstate cargo theft.

10 Shooting at festival in Texas claims 2 lives

A tragic incident occurred during the festival on June 16 in the state of Texas, resulting in the injury of 14 individuals and the loss of two lives. The incident took place during a festival organized by the city authorities and a non-profit organization, held at Old Settlers Park on Saturday night. A fight started between the two groups, but then one of them pulled out a gun and opened fire.

Among the injured were at least two children, 14 people were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. Allen Banks, Police Chief, confirmed the severity of the situation and the ongoing investigation to locate the gunman. Authorities are seeking an individual described as having a thin build, average height, and short dreadlocks, offering a $5,000 reward for any information that may lead to their apprehension.

Southern China faces heavy floods, and landslides kill at least 10

Southern China has been battling a series of devastating landslides triggered by heavy rains that have been ongoing for the past several days. The severe weather conditions began on Sunday morning, with rainfall levels reaching an alarming 14.7 inches in just one day. Multiple towns in the region were hit by landslides, leading to tragic consequences.

In Meizhou city, at least 10 fatalities have been confirmed, with another 20 individuals reported missing. The severe weather also resulted in approximately 130,000 households being left without electricity. In neighboring Fujian province, 880 hectares of crops were destroyed by landslides, with estimated damages totaling around 57.2 million dollars. In response to the crisis, 200 rescue teams have been mobilized to search for missing individuals and provide vital assistance to affected communities.

A truck carrying frozen food caught fire near Alsip

On Monday evening, a truck ignited in flames near Alsip, resulting in significant traffic disruptions. Police officials reported that the incident led to the blockage of multiple traffic lanes. The heavy smoke emitted from the fire also impaired visibility, posing challenges for the responding fire department. Currently, investigators are at the accident site to determine the cause of the incident, with video footage from nearby cameras set to be analyzed. Thankfully, there have been no reports of any fatalities or injuries related to the incident.
