On Friday morning, the suspect climbed to the second floor of the synagogue and threw a molotov cocktail after which a fire broke out in the building. No one was injured in the incident. When the police arrived on the scene, the suspect tried to attack the police officer with a long knife, after which the police officer shot the suspect for safety reasons.

Massive attack on Crimea as a response to Russian offensive in Kharkiv

On Friday, Crimea experienced a significant drone attack launched by the Ukrainian army, resulting in damage to fuel depots, destruction of Russian airplanes, and a fire at an oil refinery. The city of Sevastopol encountered challenges with electricity supply as a consequence of the attack.

The ongoing conflict has escalated in recent weeks, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy acknowledging the advancement of the Russian army near Kharkiv. This development prompted Zelensky to postpone foreign trips and meetings with Western leaders, as the Ukrainian army grapples with a shortage of personnel. To address this issue, Zelensky signed a decree allowing prisoners to join the army, thereby bolstering troop numbers.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian army attacks on Russian territory have become more frequent and on a larger scale. Ukraine has repeatedly "successfully" struck Russian military plants and other military facilities. Residents of border towns have been forced to evacuate due to the more frequent attacks.

According to the Ukrainian defense minister, the Russian army is carrying out offensive attacks in the east of Donetsk, Chernihiv Region and the south of Zaporizhzhya Region. In this way, Moscow is trying to distribute the Ukrainian army in different directions and also to deplete Ukrainian resources. Gen. Christopher Cavoli, Supreme Allied Commander Europe, expressed doubt regarding the Russian army's capacity for a successful offensive in Kharkiv, citing resource and manpower constraints.

ICC prosecutor seeks warrant for Netanyahu's arrest

The Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has announced plans to seek arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar on charges of war crimes. Sinwar is additionally accused of hostage-taking, killings, and violence against prisoners.

This development marks a significant step as it represents the first major case in which the ICC will investigate alleged crimes committed by a close ally of the United States. Previously, the court had also pursued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin for his military intervention in Ukraine.

Although both Israel and the U.S. are not members of the ICC, the court has had jurisdiction over the Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem since 2015. The upcoming review by the ICC judges will extensively assess Israel's actions in the occupied territories over the last three years, with the final decision expected to be reached after a thorough deliberation process that could span several weeks.

UK court ruling will allow Assange to avoid extradition

The UK High Court's recent ruling in favor of Julian Assange sets the stage for the WikiLeaks founder to appeal his extradition to the United States. Assange is accused of colluding with US intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning, who provided hundreds of thousands of classified data. As the founder of WikiLeaks, Assange began publishing classified data in 2010.

In March this year, the UK High Court assured the US authorities that extradition can only be approved if the US guarantees that it will not subject Assange to the death penalty. Despite these assurances, Assange, now 52 years old, has spent the past five years in Belmarsh prison in London, where his physical and mental well-being has reportedly deteriorated.

Numerous voices, including independent journalists and organizations like the Committee to Protect Journalists, have called for the US to drop its extradition efforts. If extradited and convicted, Assange could face up to 175 years in prison under an 18-count indictment. Manning, who originally received a 35-year sentence for her involvement, had her sentence commuted by President Obama.
