SK Hynix, a leading global manufacturer of memory chips, has announced its intention to invest over $6.9 billion in the construction of a new semiconductor fabrication facility in South Korea's burgeoning chip manufacturing hub. The planned fab will be situated in the Yongin semiconductor cluster, strategically located south of the capital city of Seoul. Construction is set to commence in March 2025, with the ambitious project slated for completion by the end of 2027.

This significant investment underscores SK Hynix's commitment to expanding its production capacity and solidifying its position in the competitive semiconductor industry. In fact, the company has earmarked a substantial budget of more than 120 trillion won for the establishment of four fabs in the Yongin cluster this year alone.

With a sharp focus on advancing memory technology, SK Hynix is dedicated to upholding South Korea's prominent role in the memory sector, which is pivotal for driving advancements in artificial intelligence applications.

Eruption in Yellowstone

A hydrothermal explosion took place in Yellowstone National Park on Tuesday, causing a geyser in Biscuit Basin to erupt unexpectedly around 10 a.m. This incident occurred just a few miles north of the renowned Old Faithful Geyser. Similar explosions have been recorded in Biscuit Basin in 2009, 1991, and following a magnitude 7.2 earthquake in Hebgen Lake, located 40 miles (64 kilometers) away, in 1959.

In response to the eruption, the affected area has been temporarily closed to visitors. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries resulting from the event. Park officials have issued a warning advising visitors to remain on designated boardwalks and trails in thermal areas. These areas may have fragile crusts covering extremely hot and potentially acidic water in pools and springs, making it crucial for visitors to exercise caution.

Several world leaders have refused to recognize Maduro's victory, with Chilean President Gabriel Borich and governments of Peru and Costa Rica labeling the elections as fraudulent. The American and British governments have joined in, calling for an independent audit of the vote count to ensure transparency in the electoral process. The situation in Venezuela continues to be under scrutiny, with ongoing debates about the fairness and accuracy of the election results.

During a visit to the flooded areas, Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea, criticized officials for their handling of the situation and provided instructions on preventing future damage from flooding incidents. As of now, officials have not released official figures regarding the number of fatalities or the extent of damage caused by the recent flooding. Summer floods in North Korea are an annual concern, resulting in significant damage to farmland due to inadequate drainage systems, deforestation, and outdated infrastructure.

According to officials from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, the 50-seater aircraft deviated from its intended path shortly after departure, resulting in the crash on the eastern side of the runway. In response, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has initiated a specialized team to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. The aviation safety standards of Nepal have received criticism, particularly for flights operating to remote airstrips situated in close proximity to mountains. The challenging terrain surrounding Kathmandu's main airport creates difficulties in takeoff and landing procedures due to fluctuating wind patterns caused by the surrounding peaks.
