The International Brotherhood of Teamsters begin voting for presidential endorsement

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters announced Friday that its membership would be voting on the union’s endorsement for U.S. president this election year. Around 1.6 million members will have the opportunity to vote for their preferred candidate for president in 2024.

Through official social media account, the organization revealed that members received a new edition of Teamster Magazine, which includes a QR code on the back page. This code allows members to participate in the voting process by selecting their preferred candidate from a list that includes Donald Trump, Kamala Harris, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Cornel West. In addition to choosing a candidate, members are also being asked to rank the top five policy issues they believe the union should prioritize. These issues include abortion, climate change, immigration, inflation and declining purchasing power, protecting union rights, affordable healthcare, and pension increases.

Notably, the Teamsters have extended an invitation to Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris for a roundtable discussion, although Harris has not yet made an official announcement. Furthermore, Teamsters President Sean O'Brien made history by speaking at the Republican National Convention in July and is scheduled to address the Democratic National Convention later this month.

A prominent Russian businessman known for stealing confidential information has been released as part of a prisoner swap

In a recent high-profile multinational prisoner exchange involving the United States, Russia, Germany, and other countries, two American citizens, including prominent Wall Street Journal journalist Evan Gershkovich, were released. Among the individuals involved in the exchange was Russian entrepreneur Vladislav Klyushin, known for his involvement in a significant insider trading scheme on Wall Street.

We took this video from CNBC YouTube Channel.

Despite his young age, Klyushin gained recognition by establishing a successful cybersecurity firm, M-13, in Moscow. He earned respect from Russian authorities and even had a position in the office of Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, investigations conducted by American intelligence agencies revealed that M-13 was involved in hacking American companies and stealing confidential information to engage in illicit transactions on Wall Street. Notable companies such as Tesla, Roku, and Skechers were among the victims of Klyushin's criminal activities, through which he amassed $36.6 million. Klyushin was apprehended at the request of the United States on March 21, 2021, in the Swiss city of Sion. He had arrived with his family on a private jet, intending to transfer to a helicopter for a trip to the Zermatt ski resort.

Turkish government blocks Instagram, accusing Meta of censorship

On August 2, the Turkish government made the decision to block access to Instagram for 50 million users in response to Meta's deletion of posts expressing condolences for the death of Hamas leader Haniyeh. Haniyeh, the head of the political wing of the Palestinian militant organization, was killed in an explosion during a visit to Tehran for the inauguration of the new president.

Fahrettin Altun, Assistant to the Turkish President and head of communications, accused Instagram of censorship and reiterated Turkey's unwavering support for its Palestinian brothers. Altun emphasized that Turkey will continue to freely express its thoughts on any platform, despite any obstacles. With a population of 85 million people, more than half of Turkey's population is subscribed to Instagram. The Turkish government has not yet issued an official statement regarding the duration of the Instagram block.

Vietnamese businessman sentenced to 21 years imprisonment for fraud

A prominent Vietnamese businessman has been found guilty of fraud worth more than 150 million dollars. Following a trial in Hanoi, the 48-year-old entrepreneur was sentenced to 21 years in prison. Trinh Van Quyet was the founder of FLC Group, which owns discount airline Bamboo Airways and has extensive real estate holdings, including hotels, golf courses, and other assets. Trinh Van Quyet fraudulently inflated the value of the group's subsidiary, general contractor FLC Faros, by reporting fictitious capital contributions before taking the company public in 2016. The company then fraudulently sold 391 million shares to about 30,000 investors, defrauding them of more than $144 million.

The indictment also implicated several high-ranking officials, including the former chairman of the Stock Exchange Ho Chi Minh, who was found guilty of abuse of power and received a 6.5-year prison sentence. The case against Trinh Van Quyet is part of a broader effort by Vietnamese authorities to combat corruption and fraud. In recent years, multiple prominent business leaders in the country have been arrested for similar offenses, as the government clamps down on financial wrongdoing.
