In the early hours of Sunday morning, tragedy struck in Scappoose as a house fire claimed the lives of two people and a pet. The Scappoose Fire District received a call at approximately 3:30 a.m. and rushed to the scene on Northwest St. Helens Road. Upon arrival, firefighters were met with a horrifying sight as the house was already 75% engulfed in flames. Despite the intense heat and smoke, firefighters were informed that there were still people trapped inside the burning building. They quickly sprang into action, but their efforts were hampered by the raging inferno that had taken hold of the house. They eventually managed to break a window to gain access to a back bedroom where they found two people and a pet. Tragically, all three were already deceased.

We took this video from KPTV FOX 12 Oregon YouTube Channel.

The Scappoose Fire District fears that there may be another person still trapped inside the house. A search is currently underway, but the situation is complicated by the extensive damage caused by the fire.

The cause of the blaze remains unknown and is being investigated by the Columbia County Fire Investigation Team, Oregon State Police, and the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office. The loss of life is a devastating blow to the community, and our hearts go out to all those affected by this tragedy.
