Early Friday afternoon, the Clark County Sheriff's Office made an arrest following a high-speed chase that spanned state lines. The suspect, identified as 55-year-old Brett Chauncey of Vancouver, was wanted on multiple charges including second-degree assault, domestic violence, and first-degree malicious mischief out of Clark County. The pursuit began just after 1 a.m. when deputies were called to a property in rural Battle Ground where Chauncey was accused of committing domestic violence and entering the alleged victim's home. Chauncey fled the property in a blue box truck and was later spotted driving near Northeast Ward Road and Northeast 162nd Avenue. Deputies attempted to stop Chauncey, but he refused to pull over and the chase began.

The pursuit led deputies across the Glenn Jackson Bridge into Portland before continuing east on Interstate 84. The chase was ultimately called off for public safety after Chauncey drove through traffic cones and into an active construction zone on I-84. Portland police followed the box truck by air, and officers, along with Multnomah County deputies, used tire deflation devices on the vehicle. The truck eventually crashed near Northeast 82nd Avenue and Northeast Columbia Boulevard, and Chauncey fled on foot. However, he was quickly apprehended by law enforcement.

In addition to the charges out of Clark County, Chauncey had multiple outstanding warrants. He is now in custody and facing a slew of charges related to the pursuit and his previous alleged crimes.

The Clark County Sheriff's Office commended the cooperation between multiple law enforcement agencies that led to Chauncey's arrest. The pursuit posed a danger to both law enforcement and the public, but thanks to their quick actions, no one was injured during the incident.
