A serious emergency occurred in the New Town community yesterday afternoon, with the Fire Department responding at approximately 1 p.m. The incident involved an active blaze at a well cluster located between New Town and Ross and operated by Hess Corporation. The fire engulfed eight reservoirs, causing significant damage and posing a serious threat to the environment.
In reaction to the incident, the Fire Department and Emergency Services quickly provided backup, including air quality testing, with a hazmat responder group. Working tirelessly throughout the night, the two groups cooperated to mitigate the fire. At about 10:00 p.m., WIC crews began responding to the fire to ensure it was completely extinguished.
After several hours of continuous effort, WFD crews were able to fully extinguish the fire at 3:51 a.m. After the successful operation, all EMERCOM personnel left the scene, and Hess Corporation began further cleanup and cleanup efforts.
This incident underscores the importance of quick and effective emergency response to contain such situations and prevent them from escalating into major disasters.
