The Washington State Patrol (WSP) and other law enforcement agencies are gearing up for a statewide traffic enforcement campaign called "Arrive Alive." The 24-hour effort will take place on May 5, and law enforcement officers will be on the lookout for dangerous driving behaviors that put motorists at risk.

The "Arrive Alive" campaign aims to reduce the number of serious injury and fatality collisions on Washington's roadways. During the blitz, WSP and partner law enforcement agencies will be targeting drivers who engage in dangerous behaviors such as impaired driving, speeding, and distracted driving. The goal is to deter these behaviors and interdict crime.

According to WSP, troopers investigated over 10,200 collisions across the state in the first four months of 2023. Of those collisions, 177 involved serious injuries, and 64 resulted in fatalities. This is a concerning trend, and law enforcement officials are working to reverse it.

In 2022, WSP troopers investigated 10,579 collisions in the first four months, 187 of which involved serious injuries, and 95 resulted in fatalities. These numbers are a sobering reminder of the importance of safe driving practices and the need for increased enforcement efforts.

The "Arrive Alive" campaign is just one of many initiatives aimed at improving safety on Washington's roadways. WSP and other law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to reduce the number of collisions and fatalities on state highways and roads. As the "Arrive Alive" campaign gets underway, motorists are reminded to drive defensively and obey traffic laws. By doing so, they can help keep themselves and others safe on the road. Law enforcement officials are also encouraging the public to report any suspicious or dangerous driving behaviors they witness and to always wear a seatbelt while driving.

Ultimately, the success of the "Arrive Alive" campaign will depend on the cooperation of all motorists in Washington. By working together, we can make our roadways safer and ensure that everyone arrives alive.
