CDL Testing

So I went through a CDL school in Wisconsin. The examiner tells me that he puts the paperwork in the system and then I need to go to my home state to get a hard copy of my CDL. I am in Florida, and I went down to the DMV after 3 days of getting tested out and the DMV says they don't have any info on my license. The guy at the DMV asks me if I took the test on a manual or automatic. Doesn't the paperwork state which I took the test on, manual of automatic? Would like to say, "manual", even though I didn't. And yes, I have driven a manual for years but let my license expire.

Because as I said, a 'manual' in a car isnt the same as a 'manual' in a truck. You said in your post that you got your license in an automatic. You never clearly said that you have ever driven a manual in a truck, and that would be the reason I added it šŸ«¤

GGG, already stated that I know how to drive a manual (5 plus years), so don't know why you felt the need to add this.

One thing to note here is that driving a synchronized transmission (like in your car) isnt the same as driving an un-synchronized transmission (like in a big truck)... When I was a CDL instructor, I found it was easier to teach people that DIDNT know how to drive a stick than those that 'knew' how...

Might Get A Dog In The Truck.

Iā€™m seriously considering getting a dog. I love dogs and would love to have one ride with me. What should I take into consideration when looking for one? A shedding dog would be a problem, so Iā€™d want a short hair breed. Thinking of getting a rescue dog that is already house trained, but not too old. Maybe 40,50 pounds give or take. Any suggestions on what to look for and where to look for one?

One of the butane drivers Iā€™ve seen around has a small Doberman. Sheā€™s super sweet and has a ton of energy and seems to be great in the truck. We unload our trucks in a secure facility so he lets her run while inside the fence. The little dogs are great but they sure do bark a lot. The dog would have to be ok around lots of different people too if youā€™re frequently in the truck stops. Iā€™d love to have a co-pilot but a dog is a little much in a day cab.

I'd recommend the smaller, the better. It's going to be a huge chore picking up a 40+ pound soaking wet dog after taking it for a walk in the rain, so I would go small, to be easier to get back on board. Something with short hair that doesn't shed; something that doesn't drool; something that doesn't chew up the truck.

Smaller dog means less food to store. Don't lose them in 2 foot deep snow though lol Think about chewing... there is a difference between house broken and house trained. Rescue dogs also may have been abused and may need adjustment to the sounds of the truck.

Trucking is a lifestyle is a big fat lie

Trucking to me is a a job and a career. I tried to understand why it a lifestyle.

Trucking to me is a a job and a career. I tried to understand why it a lifestyle. I been trucking for two months now and I still see it as a job and a career. When I think about it, some truckers just don't enjoy it like I do. I defined lifestyle of someone working a 12 hour shift at a freaking chicken factory or some other factories. I been there so I know what it's like. I didn't had no life. Only time I had to myself were 3 hours. After them three hours I had to sleep and do the 12 all over again. Now I am a truck driver I have more time then I ever did to myself. So to sum it up, the only way trucking is not a lifestyle to me because of the background I come from. I love what I do now.

It is a lifestyle in a way, but not as most think of it. Takes a special breed to do this job, and the 'life style' is not for everyone. I have tried other work, and always wind up back in the truck. One thing though, I own the truck, if I had to drive for someone, I would not be in this industry any longer. Ownership has its benefits.

Between this area, the 'Malfunction Junction' area, and on i-75 NB, the exit for 279 in Pasco County, we need to do SOMETHING. give semis / box trucks their own extra wide highway that only allows access if over a certain weight / axles. Almost daily, if not multiple times a day there's either a Fatal or otherwise horrific accident at 279..
