Right now it’s more like staring at empty load boards. It’s not choosing between bad loads. It’s waiting to find the only load. It’s that bad. Thank god for contract freight we are still doing OK. Mid Continent in Denison IA went under yesterday. More coming. Lots more.

My favorite is when I get a pre-assignment during my current load in progress. Cool, so I take my 30 to sit down, trip plan, write it all down like a good little driver. As soon as I deliver my load, boom, the prework assignment has been withdrawn. Updated to a 25mile relay. Real good stuff here.

Company is offering 65 CPM for dry van & 75 for reefer.

Isn’t that incredibly low? Don’t most guys want a CPM of $4 per mile??

That’s good company driver pay, assuming they have miles. The $4 stuff you’ve seen around refers to great rates for owner/operators, who have to pay all the expenses of running a truck.

If you're a company driver than that's pretty decent per mile Owner ops are the ones who'll want 4 dollars a mile Company drivers don't pay for fuel, maintenance, insurance or taxes on the truck, owner ops do hence the difference in pay per mile.

I think others have answered you pretty well. I'll add that starting pay for new drivers isn't going to be 65 CPM for dry van. Prime (the company I'm signing on with) starts at 50 CPM, and that's much closer to average. Some companies pay less than that.

DOT medical card be a company's property?

I left a company not long ago, and for my next round of job interviews I need my most recent medical card. My previous company, instead of giving us a physical copy of our card, kept it on file on their end. Flash forward to today, I call my old company and now they say they can't give it to me because that card is "company property," I'd assume because they scheduled the appointment with their preferred examiner. Is this legal and/or common practice?

That don’t sound right to me. Your medical card is your ticket to ride, not some company’s trophy. I’d check with the DOT or a legal eagle to see what your rights are.

Your DOT medical card is valid for usage in any job circumstance so long as the card hasn't expired. The majority of DOT physical examination cards have a validity period of two years. However, the medical examiner may decrease that period if they believe the driver needs to be examined more frequently.

You can continue working at your current job and apply for new jobs without getting a new physical while your card is still valid.

An employer may decide to request pre-employment physicals to ensure a candidate's well-being and suitability for the position, particularly for physically demanding positions. By recording a candidate's physical capabilities before employment, pre-employment examinations can assist in safeguarding employees against workplace accidents and companies from litigation arising from such injuries.

Pre-employment medical exams are advantageous for both the business and the employee. Employers can give their staff members business accounts with Immediate Care. With the help of this, companies may set up procedures for handling worker compensation claims and pre-employment physicals. It is ensured that everyone receives the same pre-employment physicals by sending all job applicants and workers to the same medical institution.

Thank you everyone for your help. Unfortunately I don't have time to wrestle back and forth with the company to get it before my interviews, but I'll certainly let the union know they're doing this and hopefully they can get someone on fixing it.

Perhaps technically, but it takes a lot of time for police to learn the law. Sometimes they never do. Co worker of mine got 'put out of service' a month ago for not having medical card. He sat in the truck for 5 hours until I got there to drive him back.

That is no longer a thing. As of January 30, 2015, Class A, B, or C commercial drivers which certify as “non-exempted interstate” drivers are no longer required to carry their Medical Examiner Certificate in their possession.

Not legal, also you should have been given something called short form to keep in your wallet, if asked to provide it to an officer you are required to do so

You can get copies of what you need from the original medical examiner as well. It is your property.

I failed an inspection because a reflector on the back of my cab fell off. I was hooked onto a trailer too, so nobody driving would even ever be able to see it.

I got pulled into a scale because an officer thought a grease spot on my air lines was a bulge. Then after he saw the grease, he decided that the lines were rubbing. Trailer passed, truck didn’t, but no fines or anything. It was infuriating and the shop agreed he was just pulling something out of his ass.

Hi this is my first post on newjobs4you and it's actually a question. I recently went through a CDL program with a smaller well-known company I've had my CDL before but back in 2003 I did not receive the proper training but the state of Texas went ahead and gave me my CDL fast forward to now 2022 small minor company put me through training I could not get my 90° back during my third and final practice CDL test and they let me go now I cannot find a job or a driving company that will hire me or train me to God at the company I worked with for two weeks and 3 days Told Me Maybe the program was too fast-paced for me and I needed more training for my 90° back mind you I've had my CDL was tinker and HazMat endorsement when I lived in Texas I've been in New York for 6 years now and I called and fill out applications for all the mega couriers to have page TV or training but none of them want anything to do with me I don't want to put the name of the company where I attended orientation training because they did what they could do I'm just wondering if anyone here has experienced anything like this and how did you overcome it and if anyone else has any of your ideas because I really would like to get back into driving a truck for a living ,

You are going to have to complete behind-the-wheel training again before you will be able to re-test for your CDL. Your options would be to pay for the training yourself (not the best option) or find a company willing to hire you for CDL training. 4 companies that might be willing to bring you on for training are Dutch Maid Logistics, PAM Transport, Millis Transfer, and Witte Bros. I am not a 100% certain if Witte Bros and Millis Transfer hire drivers out of New York. I do know that Dutch Maid Logistics and PAM Transport do.

I don’t understand why people have such an issue with being on camera behind the wheel. If you’re doing what you are supposed to it can save you in a wreck. You are always on camera when you go to Walmart, gas stations, or any other businesses. Why would a company wanting to keep tabs on their $200k piece of equipment be an invasion of privacy?
