Hey fellow drivers, I just read this article about the best truck stops hidden gems and I gotta say, it’s pretty spot on. I’ve been to a few of these places and they’re worth checking out if you’re ever in the area. Here are some of my favorites:

  • The Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo, TX. This place is famous for its 72-ounce steak challenge. If you can eat it all in one hour, it’s free. I tried it once and failed miserably, but it was still a good steak. They also have a motel, a gift shop, and a shooting gallery. It’s like a mini Wally World for truckers.
  • Jubitz Travel Center in Portland, OR. This place has everything you need to relax and recharge. They have a movie theater, a lounge with live music, a barber shop, a laundry room, and even a dog wash. They also have some of the best coffee I’ve ever had. It’s called hundred mile coffee and it’ll keep you awake for days.
  • Iowa 80 Truckstop in Walcott, IA. This is the world’s largest truck stop and it’s like a trucker’s paradise. They have a museum, a library, a dentist, a chiropractor, and a truck wash. They also have a huge store with all kinds of trucker gear and accessories. You can find anything from CB radios to alligator boots.

There are more places on the list that I haven’t been to yet, but I’m planning to visit them soon. If you have any other recommendations for hidden gems, let me know. I’m always looking for new places to explore on the road.

Keep it shiny side up

That’s a good list of truck stops, but you missed one of my favorites. It’s called the Little America Travel Center in Wyoming. It’s got a huge parking lot, a restaurant, a hotel, and a golf course. Yes, you heard me right, a golf course. They have clubs and balls for rent and you can play a few holes while you take a break. It’s a great way to stretch your legs and enjoy the scenery.

I don’t think this article applies to me. I’m OO and I have a different set of financial challenges and opportunities than a company driver. I have to deal with things like taxes, insurance, maintenance, fuel, permits, etc. I also have more control over my income and expenses. I have my own accountant and financial advisor who help me with my finances 💸

Back pain relief

Wanna share an article with you guys that gives some helpful advice on how to avoid and treat back pain while driving. I know many of us suffer from this problem due to long hours of sitting, bad posture, and lifting heavy loads.

The article explains why back pain is common among truck drivers and what are the main causes of it. It also gives 7 tips on how to reduce back pain on the road, such as sitting in a straight position, adjusting the mirrors, being careful when lifting, buying a seat cushion, taking breaks, doing yoga, and using ice and heat. I found the article very informative and practical, and I think it could benefit anyone who wants to improve their health and comfort while driving. Here’s the link to the article if you want to check it out: https://newjobs4you.com/blogs/trucking-tips/7-tips-to-prevent-back-pain/

Blood pressure

Hey fellow truckers, do you know what the DOT physical requirements are for blood pressure? I found this article that explains it

https://newjobs4you.com/blogs/trucking-law/blood-pressure-cdl-limits-dot-physical-requirements/

Apparently, you need to have a blood pressure below 140/90 to get a two-year medical certificate. If it’s higher than that, you might need medication or a shorter certificate. How do you manage your blood pressure on the road?

Feeling lonely

I'm feel lonely because I'm home only for 34 hours every 6-8 days. I tried to buy happiness by paying for an escort, but I realized that I missed having a woman to hug and sleep next to every night. I'm now feeling lonely and regret what I has given up for his job.

How do over the road truckers cope with the health challenges they face?

6

04.18.2023

Many truckers frequently struggle with mental health problems while driving. Company drivers need to take action to make sure they are coping well, whether with depression, anxiety, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The mental health of truck drivers is crucial not only to their professional success but also to their overall well-being and personal lives.

On the road, it's challenging for me to stay active. Here is what I advise.

What can drivers do about it?

The good news is that these problems can be dealt with before they escalate into larger ones. If the proper actions are taken, truck drivers' mental health can be enhanced.

According to specialists, truck drivers should take the following actions if they believe they are dealing with depression or another mental health condition:

- Stay connected with loved ones.

Being away from home is difficult for anyone, but being a truck driver who travels across the nation or even abroad may make things considerably more difficult.

When you're driving, a lot can go wrong, including traffic congestion, collisions, mechanical issues, and more. If you're anxious about all of these potential outcomes, try to concentrate on the present moment rather than what might occur in the future.

Knowing what is generating the stress will help you address it and, if required, make changes. Making a list of everything that concerns you about your job or life as a driver is one approach to accomplish this. Once you've listed everything, consider why each of these things upsets you.l.

- Find a way to sleep and have a rest.

One of the leading factors in truck driver accidents is lack of sleep. This is due to the fact that it is harder to focus on the road, which raises your chance of an accident. If you start to feel sleepy while driving, pull over and rest for a while.

To decide when to stop driving for the day and take a break, keep track of how much sleep you receive each night. Stress on the road can be decreased by getting enough sleep.

I have a hard time staying active on the road. I sit for hours and then I’m too tired to exercise. I try to walk around whenever I stop for fuel or breaks.
